Green Skills Class 9 Important Questions with Answers | Employability Skills

CBSE Green Skills Class 9 Important Questions covers all important topics. These questions are selected according to exam patterns and CBSE Employability Skills new syllabus.

Short Answer Questions (1–2 Marks)

Q1. Differentiate between natural and artificial resources.

Natural resources exist freely in nature, such as water and forests. Artificial resources are developed by human beings, such as biogas and thermal electricity.

Q2. What are inexhaustible resources? Give two examples.

Resources that cannot be exhausted by human consumption are called inexhaustible resources. Examples include solar radiation and wind power.

Q3. What are exhaustible resources? Give one example.

Resources available in limited quantities that may be exhausted through continuous use are called exhaustible resources. Coal is an example.

Q4. What is deforestation? Mention one consequence of it.

Deforestation is the clearance of forests for non-forest uses such as agriculture and construction. It causes loss of habitat for plants and animals.

Q5. What are biodegradable pollutants? Give two examples.

Pollutants that naturally break down into simpler and harmless substances through moisture and bacteria are called biodegradable pollutants. Examples include vegetable waste and paper.

Q6. What are non-biodegradable pollutants? Give two examples.

Pollutants that cannot be broken down into simpler and harmless substances are called non-biodegradable pollutants. Examples include plastic and glass.

Q7. What is the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect occurs when certain gases trap heat and prevent the Earth’s heat from escaping, making the Earth warmer.

Q8. What is the role of the ozone layer?

The ozone layer protects the Earth from harmful radiation from the Sun.

Q9. Mention any two methods of soil conservation.

  • Terracing
  • Contour ploughing.

Q10. What is rainwater harvesting?

Rainwater harvesting involves storing rainwater and using it for purposes such as recharging groundwater.

Q11. What is sustainable development?

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Q12. What is biodiversity?

Biodiversity refers to the differences in genes among individuals of a species, the variety of plant and animal species, and different types of ecosystems.

Q13. What is a green economy?

A green economy is a system that supports economic growth while taking care of the environment. It uses resources efficiently, causes less pollution and supports growth for everyone.

Q14. What is a green job? Give one example.

A green job is employment that contributes to preserving or restoring environmental quality and sustainable development. A solar cell technician is one example.

Long Answer Questions (3–5 Marks)

Q1. Explain any four ways in which human activities damage the environment.

  1. Overexploitation: Excessive harvesting can exceed natural replenishment and cause extinction.
  2. Mining: Causes erosion, sinkholes, biodiversity loss and soil and water contamination.
  3. Deforestation: Clearing forests for agriculture or construction causes habitat loss and species extinction.
  4. Pollution: Harmful substances in air, land and water harm living organisms and the environment.

Q2. Explain any four methods of water conservation.

  1. Construct dams and reservoirs to regulate water supply.
  2. Treat sewage before releasing water into rivers.
  3. Treat industrial waste to prevent pollution of freshwater.
  4. Practise rainwater harvesting.

Q3. Explain any four methods of conserving energy.

  1. Switch off lights, fans and electrical appliances when not in use.
  2. Use energy-efficient bulbs and tube lights.
  3. Use a pressure cooker to save cooking energy.
  4. Prefer public transport or carpooling instead of travelling alone.

Q4. Explain the importance of soil conservation and mention its methods.

Soil conservation helps control soil erosion and improve soil fertility. Important methods include:

  1. Maintaining soil fertility through manure, fertilisers and crop rotation.
  2. Reforestation to reduce soil erosion.
  3. Terracing to control rapid water runoff on slopes.

Q5. Explain any four features of sustainable development.

  1. Reducing excessive use of resources.
  2. Recycling and reusing waste materials.
  3. Planting more trees.
  4. Using environment-friendly or biodegradable materials.

Q6. Explain importance of green growth.

  1. Reducing the resources required for economic growth.
  2. Maintaining environmental sustainability.
  3. Enhancing social equity.
  4. Supporting job creation.

Q7. Explain any four major components of a green economy.

  1. Renewable energy – using resources such as wind, water, sun and biomass.
  2. Water management – avoiding wastage and recycling water.
  3. Waste management – separating waste and following the 3Rs.
  4. Land management – using land according to people’s needs without damaging the environment.

Q8. Explain what green jobs are and mention the sectors in which they can be found.

A green job is employment that contributes to preserving or restoring environmental quality and sustainable development. Green jobs can be found in:

  • Agriculture
  • Forestry
